  • 1 (10 oz.) can tomato puree
  • 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. fresh bread crumbs
  • 1/2 c. melted butter (6 Tbsp. works just fine)
  • 1/4 tsp. Tabasco

Directions

    Mix puree, water, sugar, salt and Tabasco. Boil 5 minutes. Place bread in casserole. Pour butter over it. Let soak in. Pour tomato mixture over bread. Bake 30 minutes at 375°. Can be made several hours ahead. Cook 45 minutes if refrigerated.
