Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. regular sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 c. salted nuts, broken in large pieces
  • 1 c. chocolate bits
  • 1 c. well drained cherries, halved

    Sift first 3 ingredients together and set aside.

    Add brown sugar, sugar and butter or margarine.

    Cream these ingredients thoroughly; blend in eggs.

    Beat well after each addition.

    Add vanilla and beat well.

    Now add dry ingredients alternately with milk; begin and end with dry ingredients.

    Blend well after each addition.

    Stir in nuts, chocolate bits and cherries.

    Turn into 13 x 9-inch or two 8 x 8-inch pans, greased and floured on bottom and bake at 325° for 25 to 30 minutes.
