  • 2 1/2 cups hot water
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 8 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast pack or 1

Directions

    Stir hot water and shortening together until the fat melts and the liquid is lukewarm.

    Place 6 cups flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl and combine.

    Add liquid gradually to flour and mix well

    Place on floured surface and knead for 5 minutes adding remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough.

    Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled (about 30-45 minutes).

    Punch down dough and form into balls 3in in diameter.

    Place on greased baking tray, cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise until doubled.

    Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
