  • 1 1/2 c. white cornmeal
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 1/2 medium onions, grated
  • 3 1/4 c. turkey broth
  • 1 1/4 c. Stove Top mix
  • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. sage
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. white pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar

Directions

    Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt in a large mixing bowl.

    Add buttermilk, eggs and oil and mix well.

    Place 1 tablespoon shortening in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in a 450° oven for 3 to 4 minutes or until hot.

    Tilt pan evenly to distribute shortening.

    Pour batter into skillet.

    Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.

    Cool and crumble the cornmeal into a large bowl.

    Cook celery and onion in 1/4 cup broth in a skillet until tender.

    Add celery mixture, remaining broth and remaining ingredients to cornbread crumbs.

    Spoon into a large greased baking dish.
