- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
- 1 cup converted rice
- 13 cup raisins
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried
- 4 drop Tabasco sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 1/2 cups water
- Salt and ground pepper to taste
Directions

1Melt 1 tablespoon of the butter in a saucepan and add the onion and garlic.

2Cook, stirring, until wilted.

3Add the rice, raisins, turmeric, thyme, Tabasco, bay leaf, water, salt and pepper.

4Bring to a boil, stirring.

5Cover the pot tightly and simmer for 17 minutes.

6Discard the thyme sprigs and bay leaf.

7Distribute the remaining butter through the rice.

8Keep the rice covered in a warm place until it is served.
