- 1 box German chocolate cake mix
- 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- 1 c. nuts (optional)
Directions

1Prepare cake mix according to box directions.

2Spread 1/2 batter in 9 x 12-inch pan and bake for 15 minutes at 350°.

3Melt caramels, butter and milk (for top of cake), then pour mixture over baked cake.

4Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel mixture. Spread remaining cake batter on top.
