- 3/4 c. margarine
- 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 1/2 c. mashed ripe bananas (about 4 medium)
- 1 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 medium bananas, sliced

1Grease 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.

2Blend 1/4 cup of margarine and brown sugar; spread in prepared pan.

3Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

4Stir lemon juice into mashed bananas. Blend together the other 1/2 cup of margarine and sugar; add eggs, 1 at a time, blending until smooth.

5Stir in sifted flour mixture alternately with banana-lemon mixture, mixing until smooth after each addition.
