- 1 c. cut up dates
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Combine dates and boiling water.

2Let stand until cool.

3Cream sugars, egg and melted butter until light.

4Spoon flour and all dry ingredients together.

5Add to creamed mixture.

6Stir in nuts and dates.

7Pour into well-greased 9-inch pan.

8Combine 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1 tablespoon butter and 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Pour carefully over batter.

9Bake at 375° for 40 to 45 minutes.
