  • 3 lb. venison steak, in 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 lb. ham
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 qt. water
  • 1 tsp. onion soup mix
  • 1 tsp. parsley flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. rosemary
  • 6 c. mashed potatoes
  • 3 eggs

    Combine salt, pepper and flour in a bag.

    Add meat cubes; shake to coat.

    In large skillet, melt butter; brown venison and ham over medium heat.

    Add water, soup mix, parsley and rosemary. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, adding more water if necessary to keep meat submerged.

    Whip together potatoes and eggs.

    Spread 4 cups of potato mixture over bottom and sides of oiled 8 x 14 x 2-inch baking dish.

    Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 5 minutes, then fill with venison mixture and top with remaining potatoes. Bake 30 minutes more.
