Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 lb. Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Put 1 cup flour and shortening in large bowl.

    Add egg and mix together.

    Add sugar and salt to water, then add second cup flour. Mix thoroughly and chill about 1 hour before rolling.

    Cut cheese into sticks about 3 x 1/2-inch.

    When dough is easily handled, roll on floured surface, then cut into strips about 1/2-inch wide. Wind strips around cheese as if binding a finger.

    Be careful to cover cheese completely.

    Pinch ends together.

    Put back in refrigerator several hours before cooking.

    This can be stored in the refrigerator for several days (or in freezer in an airtight container for several months) before cooking.
