- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts, divided
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Sift flour into mixing bowl.

2Add sugar, baking powder and salt.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add egg, milk and vanilla; mix until blended.

5Add 1 1/4 cups walnuts.

6Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.

7Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup walnuts over top. Bake at 350° for 60 to 70 minutes.

8Let stand in pan 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire rack to cool.

9Makes one loaf.
