Walnut Coffee Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/3 c. ground walnuts
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2/3 c. melted butter, cooled
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp. light brown sugar, sifted

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Beat egg, buttermilk, butter and vanilla.

    Add flour mixture, beating until smooth.

    Butter well a 2 1/2-quart tube pan.

    Coat with a mixture of 1/3 cup ground walnuts and 3 tablespoons of sifted light brown sugar.

    Pour batter in prepared pan.

    Bake at 350° for approximately 1 hour. Let cake cool in pan 10 minutes and then turn out onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
