- 1 c. milk, scalded or 1 c. milk and 1 c. sieved potatoes and potato water
- 3 Tbsp. lard or shortening
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 1/2 cakes yeast
- 6 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
Directions

1Scald milk; add lard, sugar and salt and let cool.

2When lukewarm, crumble yeast in and let rise.

3Take 4 cups flour; make well in center and pour in milk mixture; beat smooth.

4Add rest of flour and knead until smooth and elastic; knead about 10 to 15 minutes.

5Put in greased bowl; cover and set in warm place to rise until doubled in bulk.

6Then, put on floured board and cut in half.

7Shape into 2 loaves.

8Put in greased pans; let rise to double again and bake 10 minutes at 375°, then turn down to 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
