- 3 c. sifted Swans Down cake flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. white sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2/3 c. butter
- 1 c. milk
- 5 egg whites
Directions

1Sift flour once and measure; add baking powder and salt and sift 3 times.

2Cream butter and sugar thoroughly until fluffy. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, a little at a time.

3Beat after each addition until smooth.

4Add vanilla; fold in egg whites.

5Bake in greased 9-inch cake pans in a 325° oven for 15 minutes, then increase heat to 350° and bake 15 minutes longer.
