- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 1/4 c. warm water
- 6 or 7 c. Gold Medal flour (wheat)
- soft butter
Directions

1Mix together water and yeast.

2Add other ingredients.

3Knead for 10 minutes.

4Shape, cover and let rise 1 hour in a warm place in a well-greased bowl.

5Punch down; place in greased loaf pan. Let rise 1 hour and bake 40 to 50 minutes at 375°.
