- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 3/4 c. water
- 1/3 c. brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 to 1 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1In large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour and yeast.

2Heat water, brown sugar, shortening and salt to 115° to 120°, stirring constantly.

3Add flour mixture; beat at low speed for 30 seconds, then on high for 3 minutes.

4Knead in whole wheat flour to make a moderately stiff dough.

5Place in greased bowl, turning once to coat.

6Cover; let rise in warm place until double in size.

7Punch down; divide in half and let rest 10 minutes.

8Shape into loaves and place in greased 8 x 4 x 2-inch loaf pans.

9Cover; let rise until nearly double.

10Bake in a preheated 375° oven for 25 minutes.

11Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
