Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

- 2 c. water
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 3/4 to 4 1/4 c. flour
- 3 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 eggs
Directions

1In small saucepan, heat water, shortening and 3 tablespoons sugar until very warm (120° to 130°).

2In large bowl blend warm liquid, 2 cups flour, 1 cup whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, yeast and eggs at low speed until moistened.

3Beat 4 minutes at medium speed.

4By hand stir in remaining wheat flour and enough all-purpose flour to form a stiff dough.

5Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.

6Place dough in greased bowl and turn greased side up.

7Cover and let rise until double, about 60 minutes.

8Grease (not oil) pans.

9Punch down dough. Pinch off and shape into balls, place in prepared pans.

10Cover and let rise until double, about 45 to 60 minutes.

11Bake at 375° for about 15 to 20 minutes (golden brown).

12Rolls sound hollow when lightly tapped.

13Rub tops with butter.
