- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. native or cottage cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. melted lard or shortening
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. crushed dried wild sage
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- pinch of sugar (to add to yeast)
Directions

1Mix all dry ingredients together thoroughly.

2Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

3Add pinch of sugar.

4Beat together egg and cheese until smooth.

5Add melted lard or shortening and yeast. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, adding flour mixture slowly and beating after each addition until stiff dough is formed.
