- 5 c. flour
- 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 yeast cake
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
Directions

1Dissolve yeast cake in water.

2Sift dry ingredients together; cut in shortening thoroughly.

3Add buttermilk in dissolved yeast and mix with spoon until flour is moistened.

4Take out enough for a meal, roll on floured board, cut with cutter and place in shallow greased pan.

5Let raise and bake about 12 to 16 minutes. Place remaining dough in refrigerator.
