- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. sugar
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt into a large mixing bowl.

3Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4Blend together the buttermilk, sugar and yeast mixture; stir into flour mixture and blend well. If necessary, add more buttermilk to make softer dough.

5Turn out onto floured surface and knead 30 seconds.

6Divide dough in half. Roll out 1/2 inch thick; cut out with cutter.

7Bake immediately for biscuits.

8Bake in 400° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
