- 1 c. warm water
- 2 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 4 c. flour
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup warm water and sugar.

2In a small bowl, dissolve dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.

3Add yeast to sugar and water and mix.

4Add salt, shortening and egg.

5Add the flour, 1 cup at a time until dough becomes workable.

6Knead dough, let rise until doubled.

7Form into rolls and place in a baking dish; let rise again.

8Bake at 450° for 20 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.

9Pat tops with butter.
