Ingredients

  • 1 c. warm water
  • 2 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 4 c. flour

Directions

    In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup warm water and sugar.

    In a small bowl, dissolve dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.

    Add yeast to sugar and water and mix.

    Add salt, shortening and egg.

    Add the flour, 1 cup at a time until dough becomes workable.

    Knead dough, let rise until doubled.

    Form into rolls and place in a baking dish; let rise again.

    Bake at 450° for 20 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.

    Pat tops with butter.
