Ingredients

  • 1 gal. pickles
  • 1 Tbsp. alum
  • 3 pt. white vinegar
  • 6 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon buds (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. celery seed
  • pickling salt
  • 1 dill stem
  • 1 bud garlic
  • alum (2 to 3 pea-sized pieces)
  • 1 small onion, if desired
  • 1 qt. cider vinegar
  • 3 qt. water
  • 3/4 c. coarse salt

Directions

    Pour boiling liquid over pickles in jars.

    Let stand 5 minutes.

    Pour liquid out into large pan and bring to boil again. Refill jars and seal.

    Makes 8 quarts.
