  • 7 slices white bread
  • 3/4 lb. American or Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 c. cooked ham or sausage, chopped
  • 8 eggs
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • dash of pepper
  • 2 1/2 c. milk

    Trim crusts from bread.

    Butter one side.

    Cut bread into 1-inch cubes.

    Place buttered side up in a 9 x 13-inch glass dish. Beat together milk, eggs, salt, pepper and mustard.

    Pour over bread.

    Add meat.

    Top with cheese.

    Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

    Bake, covered, at 350° for 1 1/2 hours, uncovering the last 10 minutes.
