- 2 c. boiling water
- 2 c. 40% bran flakes
- 1 c. shortening
- 4 eggs
- 1 qt. buttermilk
- 5 c. flour
- 5 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 c. Bran Buds
- 2 c. nuts (optional)
Directions

1Combine water and bran flakes; cool.

2Add shortening and eggs; beat well.

3Add buttermilk.

4In another bowl, sift flour, soda, salt and sugar.

5Fold into wet mixture.

6Add Bran Buds and nuts. Store in a covered container in refrigerator.

7Use as you wish within 7 weeks.

8You can add chocolate chips just before baking. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes.
