Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. lukewarm buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. soft Crisco
- softened butter for spreading on biscuits
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm buttermilk.

2Set aside.

3Sift together flour, salt, soda and sugar.

4Cut in shortening.

5Add buttermilk and yeast mixture to sifted ingredients.

6Stir until well blended. Knead and roll to 1/4-inch thick.

7Cut with biscuit cutter on greased baking sheet. Place biscuits so they are touching.

8Butter the tops of biscuits. Place a layer of biscuits on top of buttered ones.

9Let rise at room temperature for 1 hour.

10Bake at 425° until golden brown.
