- 1 cup sifted flour
- 14 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 34 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 cup milk
- 5 tablespoons shortening, melted and cooled
Directions

1Sift the first four ingredients together in a bowl.

2Mix in the corn meal.

3Blend the egg, milk, and shortening together until mixed.

4Add to the dry ingredients and beat until smooth.

5Turn the mixture into a greased (bottom only) 8X8X2 inch pan.

6Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes.
