- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. cornmeal
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 yeast cake
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 4 to 4 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1Bring water and salt to a boil and stir in cornmeal.

2Stir in and cool to lukewarm the molasses and shortening.

3Mix dough then knead.

4Let rise until double in bulk.

5Punch down.

6Turn into greased loaf pans.

7Bake at 375° for 45 minutes or until dark brown.

8Makes two loaves, the recipe doubles well.
