- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
Directions

1Combine yeast and warm water.

2Let stand 5 minutes or until bubbly.

3Add buttermilk to yeast mixture and set aside.

4Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.

5Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

6Add buttermilk mixture and mix until all ingredients are moistened.

7Turn dough out on floured board and knead 3 or 4 times.

8Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch cutter.

9Place on lightly greased pans.

10Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes.

11Makes 3 dozen.
