- 1 pkg. yeast
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
Directions

1Dissolve yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar in water.

2Cut shortening into flour.

3Combine buttermilk, soda and salt.

4Add buttermilk and yeast mixture and remaining sugar to flour.

5Place in airtight container; refrigerate or roll out on a floured board. Place on a greased pan.

6Bake at 450° until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes.

7Mixture will keep in refrigerator for several days.
