- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk (room temperature)
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening or melted margarine
Directions

1Mix yeast with milk and sugar.

2Combine flour, soda and salt. Cut shortening into dry mixture with pastry cutter.

3Add milk-yeast mixture and stir until ingredients are moist.

4Turn out on lightly floured surface.

5Knead 4 or 5 times, roll to about 1/2-inch thickness, and cut with floured biscuit cutter.

6Dip in melted margarine and place on greased baking sheet.

7Let rise, covered, about an hour.

8Bake in preheated hot oven 12 minutes or until nicely browned.

9Makes about 36.
