- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
- 1 pkg. dry yeast, dissolve in 2 Tbsp. or more warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk (or 2 c. sweet milk with 2 tsp. lemon juice added)
Directions

1Mix flour, shortening, sugar and yeast (dissolved) with a pastry blender or fork.

2Slowly add buttermilk.

3Knead well.

4Cut out biscuits and bake 10 to 20 minutes at 400° (depends on oven). Do not let biscuits rise.

5Makes tall, moist biscuits.

6This is the only recipe I ever use.

7Serve with fried chicken, sausage gravy or just jelly and honey.

8A big family favorite.
