- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Sift into large bowl, the flour, cut in shortening; add buttermilk and yeast which has been dissolved in water.

2Stir until moist, knead a few minutes.

3Roll to 1/2-inch thick and cut with biscuit cutter.

4Place on ungreased pan and let raise 1 hour, brush with milk and butter.

5Bake at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
