- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 1 c. shortening
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Cut shortening into flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and soda with pastry blender.

3Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture until dough leaves sides of bowl. Dough will be soft and sticky.

4Pour dough onto floured surface; roll into ball.

5Knead lightly 25 to 30 times.

6Sprinkle with flour if dough is too sticky.

7Roll it 1/2-inch thick.

8Cut with round cutter.

9Bake at 400° on a greased cookie sheet for about 14 minutes.

10Makes about 2 1/2 dozen biscuits.
