- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water; stir yeast into buttermilk.

2Set aside.

3Combine flour and sugar.

4Cut in shortening.

5Add buttermilk mixture.

6Stir until moistened.

7Turn dough out on lightly floured surface.

8Knead lightly 3 or 4 times.

9Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.

10Cut with biscuit cutter.

11Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

12Bake in oven preheated at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.

13Dough may be stored in refrigerator in covered container for up to 3 days.
