  • 5 c. white flour, unsifted
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk

    Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.

    Sift all dry ingredients together.

    Cut in shortening; add yeast, water and buttermilk.
