  • 1 (25 oz.) pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk

    Dissolve yeast in warm water.

    Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening; add yeast and buttermilk.

    Add flour, if needed, to make a stiff dough.

    Turn onto floured board; knead slightly.

    Roll and cut.

    Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes on lightly greased baking sheet.
