- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
Directions

1Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and soda.

2Add shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add with buttermilk to flour mixture.

3Mix well and turn out on floured board.

4If needed, add more flour to make a soft dough. Roll out 1/4-inch thick. Brush with melted butter.

5Bake 15 minutes at 400°. Biscuits are better if allowed to stand awhile before baking.

6May be stored in refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
