Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. butter, melted
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water.

2Sift dry ingredients.

3Cut shortening into dry ingredients.

4Mix buttermilk with dissolved yeast; add to flour mixture.

5Cover bowl and refrigerate several hours or up to 3 days.

6Take out desired amount of dough.

7Roll out on lightly floured board to 3/8-inch thickness.

8With biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits.

9Dip each in melted butter and place in a pan.

10Let rise in a warm place about 30 minutes.

11Bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes.

12Yield: 50 to 60 large or 80 small biscuits.
