- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. very warm water
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water; sift dry ingredients into large mixing bowl.

2Cut in shortening.

3Add buttermilk, then yeast mixture and stir until all ingredients are well moistened.

4Turn onto lightly floured bread board.

5Knead for a minute or two (no rising is required).

6Roll out 1/2-inch thick and cut.

7Brush with melted butter and bake on ungreased baking sheet at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes or until brown.
