- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 5 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 Tbsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 5 tablespoons warm water; set aside.

2Sift together dry ingredients, then cut shortening into the mixture. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and shortening.

3Stir by hand until somewhat sticky.

4Put on floured board.

5Roll out with floured rolling pin and cut biscuits.

6Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown or golden.

7Makes 25 large biscuits.

8Will store in refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
