- 2 pkg. dry active yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. warm buttermilk
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco, melted
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water; let set 5 minutes.

2Stir in buttermilk; set aside.

3In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

4Cut in shortening with pastry blender; blend until mixture resembles corn meal.

5Stir in yeast and milk mixture.

6Mix well.

7Place on a floured kneading board.

8Knead 3 or 4 minutes.

9Roll into 1/2 inch thickness.

10Cut with biscuit cutter.

11Place on cookie sheets.

12Brush with melted butter.

13Bake at 450°.

14Yields 2 1/2 dozen.
