- 5 cups flour, self-rising self-rising, sifted
- 13 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 packages yeast, active dry dissolved in 1/4 cups warm water
- 2 cups buttermilk
Directions

1Combine flour, soda, and sugar; cut in shortening and stir in yeast and buttermilk.

2Be sure to mix well.

3Keep covered in refrigerator at least an hour or two before using.

4Roll out and cut as desired.

5Place on greased pan.

6Let rise for 2 hours.

7Bake at 450F (230C) for about 10 minutes.

8NOTE: Dough will keep in refrigerator as long as a week.

9Serve with butter or jam if desired.
