  • 2 cups white self-rising corn meal
  • 1 cup white self-rising flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • melted shortening
  • 2-1/4 cup buttermilk

    Heat oven to 375F.

    Grease and dust lightly a loaf pan with flour.

    Combine all dry ingredients in mixing bowl; stir in melted shortening or oil and buttermilk.

    Pour mixture in prepared pan and let set for 15 minutes.

    Bake 45 minutes.

    Cover pan with tea towel and let set.

    Cool before slicing.
