Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. beet or cane sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. grated raw apple, unpeeled and core removed
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1/2 tsp. finely grated orange rind
- 3 Tbsp. milk
Directions

1Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

2Cut in shortening with pastry blender until fine.

3Add eggs and blend well.

4Mix together grated apple, orange rind and milk.

5Add to mixture and stir to blend just until smooth.

6Turn into well-greased pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inches.

7Bake 1 hour at 350°.

8Cool completely before removing from pan.

9Slices best 1 day old.
