- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. Gold Medal self-rising flour
- 2 c. chopped pared apples (about 4 medium)
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Grease and flour loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inches.

3Mix 1 cup sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.

4Stir in flour until smooth.

5Stir in apples and nuts.

6Spread in pan.

7Mix 1 teaspoon sugar and the cinnamon; sprinkle over batter.

8Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes.

9Immediately remove from pan; cool bread completely before slicing.

10Store tightly covered.

11Makes 1 loaf.
