- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. finely chopped apples
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Grease and flour a loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3-inches or 2 small ones).

3Mix 1 cup sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.

4Cream well.

5Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

6Stir in apples and nuts.

7Spread in pan.

8Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and the cinnamon. Sprinkle over the batter.

9Bake until it tests done, 50 to 60 minutes.

10Immediately remove from pan and thoroughly cool.

11Store tightly covered.
