- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup canola oil
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 3 1/2 cups chopped apples
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
- Glaze:
- 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter

21. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch pan.

32. In a large bowl, sift together flour, cinnamon, sugar, salt and baking soda. Add oil, applesauce, eggs and vanilla. Mix well by hand. This batter will be very thick. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if you want nuts). Spread evenly in the pan.

43. Bake for 40 minutes. Poke holes throughout the cake with a toothpick. Glaze while still hot. Let the glaze seep into the cake and cool slightly before slicing.

65. In a saucepan combine the brown sugar, milk and butter. Bring to a boil and stir constantly for two minutes. Pour over cake while still hot. Let the glaze seep.
