  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. cold coffee
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 c. chopped apples
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. nuts

    Cream 1 cup sugar and shortening.

    Add egg, then coffee.

    Sift salt, soda and flour and fold into creamed mixture.

    Add vanilla and apples.

    Put in greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Top with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup nuts, mixed and sprinkled over cake.

    Bake 30 minutes at 350°.
