- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 to 2/3 c. shortening
- 6 Tbsp. ice water
- 6 to 8 apples (McIntosh)
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Directions

1Sift the 2 cups flour and salt; add shortening (if it's lard, only use 1/2 cup; if vegetable shortening, use 2/3 cup). Mix up into size of split peas with 2 knives or pastry cutter. Add water slowly by teaspoons. Mix lightly until dough forms. Put layer of dough in bottom of bowl. Save enough dough to put on top.
