- 8 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 to 2 Tbsp. water or milk
Directions

1Combine apples, sugar, flour, vanilla and cinnamon; set aside. Combine flour and salt; with a knife or pastry blender cut in shortening.

2Add eggs, lemon juice and enough water to form a workable dough.

3Divide dough in half, roll out half on floured board.

4Line 13 x 9-inch pan.

5Fill with apple mixture.

6Roll out remaining dough, cover apples and seal edges.

7Brush top with milk. Bake at 425° for 25 to 30 minutes.

8Cool for 30 minutes.

9Top with sauce.

10Yields one 13 x 9-inch cobbler.
